According to Craig Bohlen, President of Providence Acres Homeowners association NCDOT has formally advised in writing, that between 7/16 and 6/17, next fiscal year, they will “mill and resurface” Cottonfield Circle. Basically, they will grind up the asphalt to be incorporated into the current stone base and pave with 1.5″ of new asphalt! In the meantime, Mr Bohlen has also been informed that logging area of Cottonfield will be cleaned by the contractor.
With the additional push from Weddington’s Mayor Bill Deter and a visit by our town council representative Janice Propst, this project jumped in the NCDOT queue.
This has been a long time coming. I have lived here since 2005 and our street has been deteriorating each year. I myself have spoke to NCDOT and had the come out for an inspection for possible resurfacing. After his tour, I was contacted by the representative (who was very courteous and professional) and he stated “This just isn’t on our priority list. We have roads that are causing flat tires in the state and county, we just don’t have the money.”
Our street was originally paved in 1984 (approx). Thats 17 years of traffic with many pot holes being filled and very little maintenance done by our state. Cottonfield Circle is a state owned road so they are responsible for it.
The PAHOA board would like to thank everyone who reached out to our local and state officials to try and get this much needed resurfacing completed. Especially Thomas Yih. He was energetic and professional in his communications. Obviously, his approach worked.
