PAHOA Halloween Trick-Or-Treat

November 14th, 2017 by admin No comments »

This year we had more children than we’ve seen in the last 12 years. It’s wonderful to see all the new faces in the neighboorhood. New families are joining us and this has made the neighborhood much more vibrant!

This year, we got all the kids together and pulled them around the neighborhood in a trailer stacked with hay. The people of Providence Acres rallied and were ready at the end of the driveways with all kinds of goodies for the kids.

From the feedback, we have received this was a huge success and we are looking forward to doing more things like this in the future.

Thanks again neighbors for being willing to try something new! And thanks for making this Halloween lots of fun for the neighborhood children.

2017 PAHOA Spring Picnic was a huge success!

Thank you to all the neighbors that participated in the 2017 Spring Picnic! This was one of the largest picnics the PAHOA has ever sponsored. We had over 70 people attend with lots of food and fun. The food was wonderful and fellowship with our neighbors was even better.

The lawnmower race seemed to be the hit of the afternoon! Thanks to all the competitors who helped make the afternoon a lot of fun.

This event was a great chance to meet all the new families that have moved into Providence Acres. We are excited to see all the new faces and families within Providence Acres.

Thank you again for all the participation in this year’s event!

2017 Providence Acres HOA Dues

January 25th, 2017 by admin No comments »

By now you should have received your 2017 PAHOA dues notification in the mail. They were postmarked on December 15, 2016. Our dues are $110 annually and are very low compared to many HOA’s in the area. The dues pay for our street lights, lighting for the front entrance, water service and landscaping at the front entrance. Also the dues pay for plantings at the front entrance, our 2 neighborhood picnics along with other minor expenses incurred throughout the year.

Your HOA Board serves on volunteer basis and are elected by the neighborhood.

Please remember to pay your dues this month.

Thank you!

Ginger already praised the generosity of all you wonderful neighbors but that’s cause she could see such on her porch.

Today I had to carry the result of that generosity to my car and take it to the pick-up spot for Katie. I was overwhelmed with the outpouring of kindness and this is the best way for the Board to thank each and everyone of you.
THANKS SO MUCH!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

rev_img_5080

For those wondering, DOT confirmed they have a contractor who apparently has several of their paving projects & it is totally the contractor’s decision whether to get here by Thanksgiving 2016 or Spring of 2017.

It is still a mill existing asphalt, compact into stone base and pave with 1-1/2″ asphalt.

That’s great news! We are on this list for resurfacing!

Additionally, his many hobbies included motor cycle riding, photography, cooking, woodworking, mechanical maintenance and design, cars, singing, and playing the piano. He consistently offered coaching, mentoring, and consulting services to aide those in need. Residents cope with development pressures

WEDDINGTON – Residents of Providence Acres are exploring all avenues to help repair damage caused by the harvesting of about 20 acres of nearby trees.

A neighbor contracted a firm to cut down the trees. Residents took issue with the contractors putting in a roadway through Cottonfield Circle instead of using a more direct route to Rea Road, damaging adjacent properties and infrastructure. Home values around Cottonfield Circle range from the $200,000s to $500,000s.

“The devastation is beyond your imagination, especially for those neighbors who live alongside or across from the 21 acres of absolute destruction with no concern for the fact that this is a neighborhood of proud owners who take pride in the appearance of their properties,” said Craig Bohlen, president of the Providence Acres Homeowners Association.

The neighborhood is seeking help cleaning roads, paving Cottonfield Circle, restoring the berm and planting seedlings along the right of way.

“Affected residents have also experienced severe run-off of water into their properties that had not occurred prior to the tree harvesting,” resident Thomas Yi said.

Bohlen contacted the Union County Sheriff’s Office, but officials didn’t deem the damage as a crime. The sheriff’s office referred residents to contact the county or town.

Yi reached out to county commissioners last month. County Manager Cindy Coto emailed him back, explaining the site is in Weddington’s jurisdiction and the county doesn’t have authority over timbering.

He hasn’t heard back from State Rep. Craig Horn’s office.

Mayor Bill Deter, Councilwoman Janice Propst and Town Planner Julian Burton have visited the site to talk with residents and see the damage.

“Although our town planner has attempted many times to converse with the contractor or consultant over the last month or so, these attempts have failed to gain any response to date,” Bohlen said.

Deter said leaders plan to discuss the issue during the town’s annual retreat. Deter describes the two-day retreat as the council’s roadmap for the coming year with growth issues and budget planning as the big topics for discussion.

The retreat spans from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 18 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 19 at the Firethorne Country Club, located at 1108 Firethorne Club Drive in Marvin.

The state forest harvesting program is slated to come up at 10 a.m. Feb. 19.

Deter has concerns the program allows profit to be privatized and the cost to be socialized.

“It’s a state program, so we have to investigate and see what we can do as a municipality to try to protect our residents from this,” Deter said. “We’re also looking at the other parcels in Weddington trying to determine which of those parcels are currently under the state forestry harvesting program, so we can look down the road and see where potential issues can be.”

Bohlen hopes the town can find a solution “before the next quiet residential neighborhood is invaded and desecrated.”

Suburban struggles with nearby construction aren’t exclusive to Weddington.

Residents of the Ashe Croft subdivision have appealed to Indian Trail leaders to help with excess water from a neighboring development flooding backyards and producing excess mud, sludge and dead fish.

Ashe Croft resident Arthur Spurr compared the neighborhood’s plight to the itsy bitsy spider (the one that famously climbed up the water spout).

“Our town and our little subdivision is like that spider, but we’re stuck in the drain, being flooded from the top and plugged from the bottom and nobody wants to take responsibility for it,” Spurr told Indian Trail Town Council.

Indian Trail leaders have said it’s a state problem they’ll help residents work through.

Update from Piedmont Natural Gas

February 16th, 2016 by admin No comments »

Greetings to the Providence Acres Community,

It has been long coming but natural gas is now coming soon to your community.  I was just notified that the crews will be on site later this week weather permitting to start the installations.

Please proceed to have your yards located regarding any underground electrical, well lines, sprinkler systems, septic and drain fields,  possibly missed on the previously sited sketch of your yards.  If you need another copy please do not hesitate to contact me for a duplicate indicating where each of these items are located.   Also, please contact a heating and air contractor or gas licensed plumber for estimates to convert or replace equipment.   If you would like Piedmont Natural Gas to assist with an estimate you may call me to schedule an appointment.

I look forward to seeing the success of this project and for you to enjoy the low costs associated with natural gas.
