This is an edited summary of the Providence Road Construction Upate from the November 2009 Weddington Journal:
…A temporary traffic signal will be installed at the Mills Cleaners entrance at the Shopping Center at the request of NCDOT division Engineer Barry Moose. This traffic signal may be relocated if a permanent connector road is built from Providenc Road to Weddington-Matthews road at some time in the future. This traffic signal will allow for improved access into and out of the Weddington Corners Shopping Center. Mr. Mosse started that traffic modeling showed that this light would not be a detriment to traffic flow along Providence Rd. Mr Moose also recommended a back entrance into Weddington Corners. This entrance would allow traffic to navigate from the Shopping Center
Weddington Road Construction update: …Work on Weddington Road (Hwy 84) has begun. NCDOT has finished clearing vegetation within the right-of-way…Currently NCDOT still plans to install a median along Weddington Road from Providence Road to Weddington-Matthews Road.
Other info: Mr. Moose also stated that funds would be available in January to install turning lanes and a traffic signal at the hemby/Beulah church Road and Weddington-Matthews Road intersection. Construction could begin next summer and will take at least six months to complete…
